Link Building BasicsOkay, so let’s get back to basics with link building. Sometimes you just need to remember exactly what something is and why you do it. This is a quick refresher blog on linking and I hope it helps jog our memories and gets us excited about this important part of SEO again.

Firstly, what is link building? Link building is the action by which a Web site owner gets other Web sites to link to their site. It can take the form of either:

URL Link – This is your Web address e.g.  http://www.yourwebaddress.co.uk

Anchor Text Link – This is text linking to your site e.g. somethingorother

Image Link – A picture which, when clicked on, links to www.somethingorother.co.uk

Those are the basic links which an SEO or Web site owner wants to get onto other Web sites.

So, why do we spend time link building? Well the answer is, because of search engines like Google. Google uses upwards of 200 different criteria when choosing where to place a Web site in it’s rankings. An important criteria is link building. This is because, if a site is willing to link to your site, then Google realises your site must hold quality content for the user. These links also create a traffic source for your Web site giving more pathways for visitors to come and see your site.

There are many types and takes on link building but the most important way of thinking about link building is quality NOT quantity. There is a difference between low quality and high quality links and it is better to spend time getting high quality links from good sources. This is why a451 focus on high quality link building with their clients!
